One World One Dream

You are not a warm blooded animal, if yesterday's Olympics, 2008 Opening Ceremony Beijing did not give you the goosebumps of the millenia.

In my opininon there is nothing that can unite various strata of people like sports can. Nothing. It was exemplified better than anything, when almost 80 heads of states and over 90,000 fans had thronged Beijing for the most blessed night of their life. To see the whole world at one go.
Olympics is one platform where petty difference can be put behind, to bring forth something truly unique and priceless: sportamnship. And what better place to display it in than the Olympics; the giant of all games.

The opening ceremony was genuinely one of the most spectacular event i hace seen in my entire life. The fireworks, the arts, the settings... the Bird's Nest shone all its feathers with a cultural and ethnic spell that perhaps only China can weave. To see the beaming representatives of tiny, almost unknown countries where they probably dont have the resources to make ends meet was touching. It somehow made you want to cry.

I won't lie and tell you that i do not want my country to bring medals home. It doesnt matter whether the Indian contingent is small or big, patritotic feelings do run high. But somehow the Game tends to overshadow everything. Eventually, it does not matter who wins or loses, there is nobody who is bigger than the Game itself. And when the Olypmics will end, it will stay alive.
This year China has supposedly chosen the best time in the millenia to usher in the Olympics - 08/08/08. The Year of the Rat. Being the first sign of the Chinese zodiac, rats are leaders, pioneers and conquerors. They are a symbol of good luck and wealth.
I bow humbly to the Greek for what they have given us. They have given us the Gift of Sport, of Spirit, of Life, of being One.
