There are many things I imagined writing about. This is certainly not one of those. Slumdog Millionare won 8 Academy Awards! Slumdog might not be my favorite movie, probably more so because we have seen it all before, but the story of the underdog always triumphs, and the parallel story of India coming to fore at the 81st Oscars showed us a night no less magical.
And the best part was watching AR Rahman winning both the Oscars he was nominated for. And performing!! It was a surreal experience witnessing Rahman singing Jai Ho and girls in ghagra cholis dancing behind him. And of course, Resul Pookutty for sound mixing. Heartwarming to say the least
Slumdog has had it's fair share of critics. Most of them Indian. But I don't want to be a cynic at a moment where everybody's so so elated and steal the happiness by detracting this. Kudos to Danny Boyle for this one. (He looks like a lovable figure anyway)Getting 9 Oscar nominations and bagging 8 of them is no joke really. And the best motion picture! This is about Mumbai isn't it? Maybe a lil of Dharavi and the slums, but still a apart of Mumbai!
Smile Pinki also won in the short subject documentary category, but Slumdog swept through the ceremony. The smiles on the faces of the junior cast said it all. There's just this happy bubble that i don't want to burst right now.
PS: Hugh Jackman was the host! I can't get over his awesomeness! And those who saw it, what about his opening act eh? Amazing innit?!!
